How LeoBay Came to Life

LeoBay Journals

Some places are planned for years.
LeoBay wasn’t one of them.

It started with a feeling.

Finding the Place

Set on the Isle of Sheppey, overlooking Queenborough Harbour, LeoBay sits in a spot that most people would probably drive past without a second thought.

But the moment we saw it, we knew.

There was something about the space, the views across the Swale, Medway and Thames Estuary, and the quietness of it all that made it feel like it could be something special.

At the time, it was just a field with a bungalow. A blank canvas.

The Idea

Coming from a background in motorhomes and auto electrics, the idea was simple:

Create a campsite that actually works for people like us.

Not a big, busy holiday park…
But a smaller, quieter space with the right setup:

  • Hard standings
  • Electric hook-ups
  • Proper facilities
  • And somewhere to help if anything wasn’t quite right

That last part mattered.

The workshop was always part of the plan.

Building it from scratch

We moved in on a Friday afternoon… and started straight away.

What followed was months of hard work. Lorry after lorry arriving with materials. Ground being shaped, pitches being laid, everything built piece by piece.

In just a few months, LeoBay began to take shape.

It wasn’t polished. But it worked.

And that was enough.

More than just a campsite

Over time, it became more than just somewhere to park up.

Gardens were added. Spaces to sit. Little touches that made it feel more personal.

Today, the site has grown into something that feels settled, with carefully looked-after grounds and even award-winning gardens woven into the space.

But the idea behind it hasn’t changed.

What it is now

LeoBay is still a small, independent, family-run campsite.

Just a handful of pitches. A quiet setting. And a different pace to most places.

Tucked away up a private drive, it offers open views, fresh air, and space to switch off for a few days.

It’s the kind of place people come to slow down.

And the people who stay

Over the years, we’ve met all sorts of campers.

First-time van owners figuring things out. Regulars who come back year after year. People looking for a bit of quiet, and finding exactly that.

What started as a project has quietly grown into a small community of people who just “get it”.

The simple idea that still holds

At its core, nothing complicated has changed.

A quiet pitch. A bit of space. And everything you need, without anything you don’t.

That was the idea at the start… and it still is.
